How to Enjoy Winter in the Swiss Alps as a Nonskier

Even if you’re not a skier or snowboarder, you’re still sure to enjoy the Swiss Alps in the winter. Here are some of our favorite things to do:

Get outside!

Don’t let the temperatures or the weather scare you off… Switzerland is still enjoyable in the winter! Winter is a fantastic time to take a walk or hike in the snow, with fewer crowds than the high summer season. Just be sure to pack good footwear or bring hiking poles if you have them!

Cozy up in a local pub

While Switzerland may not be famous for their beer like Germany or Belgium, there’s plenty of opportunities to enjoy the local fare. You can skip the skiing in après-ski (after-skiing activities) and hop right to having a drink or a bite to drink. Mingle with folks who have come in off the mountain and enjoy a pint or two!

Just fondue it

As if cheese and bread weren’t already perfect enough on their own, the Swiss took it to a whole new level by mastering the art of fondue. Devouring some warm cheese and bread (along with other delicious accoutrement) is a quick way to enlightenment, IMHO.

Enjoy a scenic train ride

Wanting to enjoy the views, but don’t want to brave the outdoors? You’re still in luck! There are many scenic trains, trams, cable cars, gondolas and funiculars to take advantage of. While many winter sports participants use these forms of transportation to get up the mountain to start their runs, you can also take them to enjoy the mountain views... No exercise needed!
